A Brief Introduction to the 2019 Honda Passport
2019 Honda Passport shares much of its DNA with another vehicle – the Honda Pilot. It would be a mistake, however, to think that Passport is just another “clone” as Honda has given it enough distinction.
Honda Passport and Pilot Comparison
Both the Passport and Pilot ride on a 111-inch wheelbase. Moreover, these two SUVs have the same powertrain and they even have identical dashboards. They also have the same multimedia system.
As mentioned earlier though, they share a lot of similarities. They do have a few key differences as follows: (We’ll be discussing the Passport’s key features later so sit back and relax!)
- The Passport is 6.0 inches shorter due to the fact that it’s only a two-row SUV as compared to the three-row Pilot.
- All-wheel-drive Passport has 0.8 -inch more ground clearance than the Pilot which makes it more capable off-road. That’ a total of 8.1 inches. Front-wheel drive Passports have 7.5 inches clearance by the way.
Engines, Ride, and Handling
The 2019 Honda Passport has the same 280 horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 and nine-speed automatic transmission found in the Pilot. Its front-wheel drive is standard while the all-wheel-drive system is optional. Drive setting features are available for Normal, Sand, Snow, and Mud. The 2019 Honda Passport is also capable of directing torque using the brakes without the added cost, weight, or even complexity a torque-vectoring differential. It’s worth noting though that a two-speed transfer isn’t available. Finally, the 2019 Honda Passport offers a comfortable ride and the steering is pleasingly direct giving the vehicle a nimble, agile feeling from behind the wheel.
Interior and Technology
The Passport’s interior has two rows of seats with a room for five. There is a total of 78 cubic feet of room if the rear seat is folded and 41 cubic feet of storage if it is in use. Base Passport Sport models have a smaller, non-touchscreen-based radio but the optional system has an 8.0-inch touchscreen.
Safety
As one of the leading car manufacturers in the world, Honda takes ride safety as its top priority. All Honda Passports features the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistance features. This bundle includes adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep steering assist. Full-LED exterior lighting also comes in standard along with push-button starting, keyless entry, three-zone climate control, and a 215-watt audio system with six speakers and a subwoofer.
