Maruti Suzuki is all set to make a dent in the MPV space, for now, there are two people movers that reside in the same space – another nice marketing decision from the homegrown carmaker. So, the XL6, essentially, caters to the audience that didn’t find the Ertiga much appealing, and are willing to pay extra for a little bling.
But, as its name suggests, it’s not an XL vehicle in comparison to the Ertiga. Although, it does happen to seat 6 now, in comparison to Ertiga, which is good for 7 passengers. This is possible with the help of captain seats in the middle row, which replaces the Ertiga’s bench. To keep up with its premium badging, the XL6 will retail through Nexa outlets.
Maruti Suzuki has made sure the XL6 doesn’t look exactly identical to the Ertiga, by giving the XL6 some aesthetic modifications. The overall silhouette, though, remains unchanged. But what’s new is the front-end, which is now butcher and more SUV-like with its rugged bumper. The headlamps are completely new, with full LED treatment. The fog lamps, too, are LEDs. There aren’t many changes on the side or rear, with only black plastic cladding and other blackened-bits to speak of.
Specifications
Maruti Suzuki has made enough efforts to differentiate the XL6 from the Ertiga. It is now butcher, more in your face, and significantly upmarket. The dimensions, however, remain closely matched to the Ertiga at 4,445mm of length, 1,775mm of width, and 1,700mm of height. The wheelbase is a good 2,740mm, and the kerb weight is 1,180kg. The boot space is not too shabby either, at 209-litres.
The Maruti Suzuki XL6, unlike the Ertiga, only comes powered with a single engine option. The motor in question here is the 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol, which made its debut in the Ciaz in 2018. It is capable of churning out 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. It comes mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque converter automatic. Just like its other siblings, it also gets the brand’s SHVS technology with a dual-battery setup. The engine is also BS-VI compliant, from the day of launch.
Mileage
Even with the shift to BS-VI emission standards, the engine is good for 19.01 km/l for its petrol-manual derivate, making it one of the most fuel-efficient MPVs in the country. The petrol-automatic, on the other hand, is good for 17.99km/l (both figures, ARAI-certified).
Features
Before we talk about the features, it’s worth noting that the cabin layout of the XL6 remains unchanged from the second-gen Ertiga. However, the cabin is now finished in black and the seats are now draped in black leatherette upholstery. Other than that, the top-spec Alpha variant gets Maruti Suzuki’s Smartplay Studio infotainment system with Apple Carplay/Android Auto, steering-mounted audio controls, cruise control, automatic headlamps, LED fog lamps and headlamps with DRLs, LED taillamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, automatically foldable mirrors, colour TFT MID display, push-button start with keyless entry, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob.
Colours
The XL6, as of early-2020, comes in six shades, namely, NEXA Blue, Brave Khaki, Auburn Red, Magma Grey, Premium Silver, and Arctic White. The XL6 looks its best in the NEXA Blue shade, while Premium Silver and Arctic White are the safest options.

Variants and Prices
As of early-2020, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 is available in four variants: Two for the petrol-manual and two for Petrol-AT. The manual range begins at Rs. 9.84 lakh for the Zeta variant ending at Rs. 10.41 lakh for the Alpha variant. For the petrol-AT, the price for the Zeta AT variant is Rs. 10.94 lakh and the price for the Alpha AT variant is Rs. 11.51 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
