Is replacing the car windshield necessary? When should you replace it? Do you know how to do it properly? The answers to all of these questions can be found here.

When should you replace your windshield?

Replacing your windshield will be very necessary when there are some severe cracks and chips found on it. It is, indeed, true that the cracks and chips can sometimes be repaired without any needs of replacement for less than a hundred dollars, but in some cases when the cracks are too deep and the chip is too big to be repaired, you will definitely need to replace your car windshield.

The replacement is important, because driving with a severely cracked windshield is not only illegal, but it is also dangerous. First, all of us know that the cracked auto glass will definitely obstruct your vision when driving. Second, there is even a possibility of your cracked auto glass to shatter and it will go right to the driver’s and also passenger’s faces. And third, the cracks can also allow the water to sip in. All of these risks are the reasons why driving with a cracked windshield is not suggested.

How to replace it

Here are some steps that you should do in order to replace your damaged windshield properly.

  1. Remove the damaged windshield

In removing the old Windshield Replacement, you should first remove the molding  and also the chip holding carefully without damaging it. Then, you should properly separate the windshield from its pinch-weld. In doing this, you can use a razor or a cold knife. Cut the urethane and carefully take off your car windshield.

  1. Clean the pinch-weld

The next step that you need to do is to clean the pinch-weld and remove the tape around it before applying a primer to any bare metal.

  1. Install the new windshield

It is the time for the installation. First, using a caulking gun, you should apply the urethane around the pinch-weld area. Then, install the new windshield and you need to wait until the urethane set. The last step is replacing the gasket by firstly removing the windshield clips, carefully pulling out the gasket, placing it into the groove, and then tightening the clips.
